Lilith

Lilith’s Lament or Over the Moon
painting and poem by Teena Marie Fancey

A reluctant moon, you timidly rise
Show me your face but only one side
Celestial body controlling the tides
Keeping a distance, at rest in the skies

On the horizon intensified
I spin in your orbit, romanticize
Lunar illusion soon realized
Sheds light through darkness on the inside

A slice of light to waxing promise
Full and bright to waning premise
Begin again and don’t confess
Reluctant show of tenderness

Honey dripping from your lips
What exists behind your kiss?
Illuminate and then eclipse
And only stay if time permits

A slice of light to waxing promise
Full and bright to waning premise
Begin again and don’t confess
Reluctant show of tenderness
I’m over the moon; I’m over the moon
